Tan is suing the Singapore goverment for around S$ 3 million in damanges for mistakely caning him three more strokes than he was originally sentenced to court documents howed yesterday...

Joseph Chen is making a name for himself behind this David and Goliath case of perhaps opportunistic greed arising out of sheer govt high handed callousness and pathetic WTFness. Nonetheless, this would be great advertisement for him and his firm if Dickson wins the case. However, what are the odds of the govt caving in now when there is publicity and face-saving almost non-existent for the court and prisons department. Where did it go wrong that a convicted felon for abetting an illegal moneylender can get 3 extra strokes on top of the 5 he was supposed to get? Well, the govt blamed it on judge Kow Keng Siong and an unnamed court clerk who has since "resigned".

I think Singapore's approach to corporal punishment is wonderful! Years ago, as a schoolboy, I was caught spying on some girls getting changed and showered after PE. As a result, I was caned hard on my bare buttocks by a woman teacher in front of these girls. The pain and humiliation were great, escpecially when I pooped myself after eight strokes. However, I never did anything like that again!
